General Conference Theme
Paradigm Shifts and New Tendencies in Modern-Contemporary Philosophy
當代哲學範式的轉換與哲學發展的新趨向

Specific Research Topics

I.  Paradigm Shifts in Modern-Contemporary Philosophy (當代哲學的範式轉換)

II. Modern-Contemporary Developments in Basic Philosophical Theories (哲學基礎理論的當代進展)

III. Field-Being Philosophy, the “Non-substantialistic Turn”, and Modern-Contemporary Philosophies East and West (場有哲學、非實體轉向、與近代東西方哲學)

IV. The Relevance and Significance of Daoism in the Global Age (道家、道教思想的時代意義)

V. Inter-comportive Harmony:  The Self-awakening and Re-construction of Civilized Orders (超切和諧:文明格局的自覺與重建)

VI. Possible Influences and Contributions of Phenomenology, Hermeneutics, Deconstruction, and/or Critical Theory to the Development of Chinese Philosophy (現象學、解釋學、解構主義、或批判理論對中國哲學的發展可能有的影響與貢獻)

VII. The “New Physics” and Taoist Cosmology (新物理學與道家宇宙論)

VIII. Philosophical Implications and Relevance of Chaos Theory, Grey Theory, and System Theory to Zhou Yi、 the Daode Jing、and Field-Being Philosophy (混沌理論、灰色理論,及系統理論的哲學涵義及其與《周易》、《道德經》、和場有哲學的關聯)

IX. Modern Philosophical Interpretations of the Unity of Confucianism, Daoism, and Buddhism (儒道佛三教合一在哲理上的現代詮釋)

Paper proposals written in English or Chinese that pertain to any of the conference themes or specific research topics are welcome.    Initial submissions must include title of paper, a short abstract (no more than 150 words), and the completed Registration Form.   Deadline of paper proposals:  May 20, 2010.  The full paper or (at least) a detailed outline is due on or before July 6, 2010.

General Conference Schedule
 
July 26 (Monday):  Participants check in, reception dinner.
July 27 (Tuesday):  Full-day sessions, dinner.
July 28 (Wednesday):  Full-day sessions, dinner.
July 29 (Thursday):  Full-day sessions, farewell banquet.
July 30 (Friday): Tour to Chang Bai Shan (optional)
July 31 (Saturday):  Tour to Chang Bai Shan (optional)
August 1 (Sunday): Departure--Participants pursue their respective journey.  

Accommodations

Accommodations are available to all participants at a three-star hotel not far from the conference site: US$75.00 per day for a single-room or US$40.00 per day for a double or shared room.    

Registration Fee*  

A non-refundable registration fee of US$20.00 (or CNY$160) is required of all participants which should be paid at the time of registration. The fee covers the following expenses:

•Tea, snacks, and meals served at the conference venue
•Conference materials to be distributed to all participants and observers
•Farewell banquet (walk-in observers are excluded)
* Expenses related to the optional tour to Chang Bai Shan not included

Financial Support

A small number of stipends in various amounts are available for needy overseas or non-local scholars to defray the costs of participation. Depending on need, availability of funds and the number of applications, the amount of support in most cases would be no less than the cost of accommodation and no more than US$500. Scholars who are interested to apply for financial support must express their intention at the time they submit their paper proposals.
